Synchronicity Boutique Rescuing Local Customers that Purchased Prom Dresses from Fraudulent Online Stores

Local dress boutique in Baltimore keeps Homecoming and Prom dreams alive by helping frantic girls who were scammed when buying prom dresses online from illegitimate fraudulent websites.

Dress Promised Dress RealitySynchronicity Boutique has helped rescue countless students around the country after they have become victims of fraudulent companies whose web sites promised “authentic” homecoming and prom dresses at cut-rate prices.

“We are all too familiar with the intentional scamming of students and their families by these illegal companies. They create “knock-off dresses”, promising that they are authentic,” reports Synchronicity Owner Karen Mazer. “At best, they receive counterfeit, inferior dresses that are unwearable. More often, however, they do not receive anything AND lose their money completely, or they are notified that their dress will not be ready in time for their event. Customers rush in, frantically trying to find a dress days before they need them. This year, we are seeing it for the first time in September in response to more fashionable Homecomings and more devious scammers.”

“It never fails,” said Synchronicity Boutique’s Manager, Brooke Newborn. “We help girls every year who are taken advantage of online and find them a perfect prom dress. Unlike online stores without a “brick and mortar” location, we have a direct connection with all of our designers and can physically check their inventories online or over the phone if a dress needs to be ordered.”

One of those customers is Kathy Fremuth whose daughter, Claire, fell in love with a dress she found online. “Like all girls shopping for their prom, Claire wanted a stunner – the kind of dress that, when you put it on, people’s heads would turn. She found a picture of one online that was gorgeous,” states Mrs. Fremuth, who believed she had researched the online company thoroughly, requested the company rush the dress, and even paid for it using PayPal for extra assurance and insurance.

Instead, she experienced delays, headaches, and when the dress arrived, a literal nightmare. “As I opened the package I was really hoping against hope that the waiting and the stress was worth it. Instead, I was literally sick to my stomach. The dress, now known as The Dress From Hell (TDFH), bore little resemblance to the dress on the website. The color was different, the pads in the bust were popping out, there were stains on the front of the dress, the back, which was supposed to be sheer, was scratchy white tulle, the stitching showed everywhere and the overall workmanship was completely shoddy. It was a mess. A seventh-grade Home-Ec class could have created something far more exceptional. My daughter came home, took one look and dissolved. “

A friend of Claire’s recommended that she visit Synchronicity Boutique, and Mazer, who heard of the situation through Facebook, was able to help find a TRUE dream dress for Claire, as well as offering advice to Kathy about how to work with PayPal when the online company refused returns and refunds.

When asked her best advice for customers who have become used to buying online, Mazer strongly cautioned, “The Internet is like the ‘Wild West’ of retail. If you are looking for something as special as a designer dress, don’t risk deception by online companies. It just isn’t worth it.”

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine, Synchronicity Boutique sells dresses in sizes 00 to 30W from a variety of designers including: La Femme, Sherri Hill, Jovani, Tony Bowls, Faviana, Terani Couture, Blush Prom, Mac Duggal, and Night Moves. This season, the Boutique is carrying more accessories than ever, and now has Tuxedo rentals and suits in every size, designed to coordinate with every dress they stock.

Synchronicity registers every dress purchase, selling only 1 of each style dress per event. Mazer is also very involved in school fundraising, and donates $5 for every dress purchase and tuxedo rental being worn to school events. Nearly $11,000 was donated from Prom 2012 Sales, supporting 240 schools’ Post Prom Parties and SADD Chapters.

Synchronicity Boutique outfits customers of all ages from all over the world for homecomings, proms, ring dances, cocktail parties, cotillions, graduations, Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras, sweet sixteens, college formals, military balls, pageants, weddings and other black-tie events.

Synchronicity Boutique Continues Working to Change Fashion Industry Standards of Beauty–Applauds Television Anchor Jennifer Livingston’s Powerful Anti Bullying Stance

As Jennifer Livingston sounds off to viewers comments about her weight, Synchronicity Boutique in Baltimore applauds her actions. Synchronicity Boutique agrees with Livingston and continues to strive towards changing the standards of beauty in the fashion industry.

Jennifer Livingston - WKBT-TV - Synchronicity BoutiqueSynchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington area’s “hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for teens and adults,” applauds the efforts of Jennifer Livingston and all people who feel they have to “fit into a predetermined mold to be deemed beautiful.”

“Synchronicity Boutique has never labeled women based on their size or shape. If a slim woman is not called ‘minus,’ why should a curvier woman be called, ‘plus?’ We go out of our way to make certain that our customers feel more beautiful after trying on dresses than before doing so.

Unfortunately, for many women this is a new experience,” explained Karen Mazer, Synchronicity’s President. “It is wonderful to see the eyes and smiles of teens and women previously labeled as “a difficult fit” when they emerge from the dressing room, knowing that they look amazing- they literally ‘light-up.’ Every person has beautiful features- our goal is to focus on those characteristics that our customers know are fabulous and unique.”

“Our in-stock inventory has always included sizes 00 to 30W, and we accommodate every unique need possible. This year, we added Designer ‘Sydney’s Closet’ to our store to offer additional choices for women who wear sizes 14 to 44. In addition, we have never made a profit on ‘up-charges,’ fees that many manufacturers charge for dresses that are size 16 or larger, and can result in dresses costing hundreds of dollars more at some stores,” added Mazer. “As a ‘real-sized’ woman, I have been bullied throughout my life. I want to do everything I can to make sure that my customers can shop with their friends of all sizes and never feel excluded.”

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine, Synchronicity Boutique stocks 2013 prom dresses in sizes 00 to 30W and beyond, from a variety of designers including: Sherri Hill, La Femme, Jovani, Tony Bowls, Sydney’s Closet, Faviana, Terani Couture, Blush, Mac Duggal, and Night Moves. This season, the Boutique is carrying more accessories than ever, and now rents Tuxedos and suits in every size, designed to coordinate with every dress they stock.

Synchronicity registers every dress purchase, selling only 1 of each style dress per event. Synchronicity Boutique in Baltimore Donates over $10,700 in Cash to Support 240 Schools Post Prom Parties

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Baltimore Maryland Prom Dresses - Synchronicity BoutiqueBALTIMORE – Synchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington area’s “hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for adults and teens in Baltimore,” has donated more than $10,700 in cash to support 240 schools’ Post Prom Parties. These events, which immediately follow prom, offer students a reason to stay in a safe, supervised location.

“Post prom parties are a wonderful way to keep students safe after the festivities of prom are complete. I discovered that many area schools and their families were unable to finance these parties,” said Synchronicity Boutique Owner Karen Mazer. “This year, Synchronicity Boutique helped outfit over 1,600 young men and women, attending proms at 240 different schools. In addition to tracking every sale to make sure we only sell one of each dress style per school, we use this information to donate $5 for every tuxedo rental and dress sale to the school whose prom the customer is attending. I also funded and outfitted students in a number of school fashion shows, and in a huge fashion event featuring Celebrity Designer Tony Bowls to raise even more funds. My dream is to increase Synchronicity’s sales, and expand our fashion events so every school that hosts a Prom can afford to host a Post Prom Party as well.” Synchronicity Boutique also donates funds throughout the year to schools’ SADD chapters with sales from Homecomings, Ring Dances, 8th Grade Dances, Parent-Child Dances and more.

This dream holds special meaning for Ms. Mazer. “My best friend from college was a juvenile diabetic. Her life was saved when she received a new kidney and pancreas. Although never conclusively informed, we believe that the organ donor was a student who died in a post prom accident. While we are all very grateful that my friend is alive, we also think daily about the fact that another family incurred a horrendous tragedy that facilitated it. I personally work hard to inform people about the importance of being an Organ Donor, but I also about how critical the need is to make sure that every student has a safe, fun place to go after their Prom so they don’t want to go elsewhere.”

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine and known as the area’s go-to place for special occasion fashions, Synchronicity Boutique outfits customers of all ages from all over the world for homecomings, proms, ring dances, cocktail parties, pageants, Bat Mitzvahs, 8th grade dances, cotillions, graduations, Quinceaneras, sweet sixteens, college formals, military balls, weddings and other black-tie events.

Open since 2003, Synchronicity Boutique is located in Hooks Village, at 25 Hooks Lane, off I-695 Beltway Exit 20. Summer Hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays Noon- 5 PM and they are closed on Sundays - Tuesdays through Mid- August. Private appointments during or outside of these hours are always welcome, though never required. For more information, call 410-486-8866 or 877.919.PROM or visit www.MyDreamDress.com

La Femme Prom Dresses 2012

Trends setting prom dresses and formal gowns for homecoming by La Femme Fashions have made an incredible prom fashion statement for the social occasion industry throughout this decade.   With embellishment that raises the bar for both elaborate and formal ornamentation to every prom dress, LaFemme prom designers seem to constantly be adding a unique combination of accent that keeps the prom dress industry talking about and loving the new stylish looks of La Femme.

La Femme Prom Dress Stores in Maryland

Throughout the 2012 prom season La Femme has had many formal prom dresses that are requested again and again at some of America’s best prom dress stores like Synchronicity Boutique.  First, with the 2011 prom season a cut out printed satin with a deep back detail lead the request list for all prom shopping. Then again in 2011 a gorgeous coral a-line chiffon with cut aurora stoning became the look requested by prom shoppers across the country.

Prom Dresses 2012

From all over sequins to soft flowing chiffons, from long prom dresses to short cocktail dresses with dramatic back treatments, the 2012 prom dress collection is again making a statement on the popularity of the look of La Femme dresses with heavy requests once again being placed on La Femme prom styles.

Synchronicity Boutique keeps prom dress budgets below average for 2012

BALTIMORE MARYLAND – 17-April-2012 – While teenagers may be worried about their dates and outfits for prom, their parents should be worried about the impact on their wallets as average prom costs increase, according to a new survey.

Parents with teenage kids are expected to shell out an average of $1,078 for prom in 2012, according to a survey release by Visa Thursday. The average is up more than $200 from the $807 average in 2011.

Parents have celebrities to thank for the increased spending. The study says teens are influenced by “red carpet” trends that pack a powerful price tag.

How much are prom dresses and Tuxedos in Maryland?

When it comes to attire, the study concluded ladies spend an average of $231 on a prom dress, $26 on lingerie or hosiery, $45 on shoes and $23 on a handbag. Men, on the other hand, spend an average of $127 on a tuxedo and another $100 on accessories like a tie, shoes and cummerbund.

Other expenses for the ladies include an average of $35 for a manicure, $33 for makeup, $50 to get their hair done, $32 for jewelry and $10 for their date’s boutonniere.

Other prom expenses for the guys

Men are averaging $20 for their date’s corsage and an average of $75 if they pay for a dinner, which includes two main dishes and an appetizer or a salad.

Add a $100 bill for a limousine — which is split between a group of friends — and dance tickets at up to $50, and the grand total can break the bank.

Visa interviewed 1,000 households at the end of March to get the results.

PROMA® LESSON 1: TOP 10 REASONS TO AVOID PROM DRESS RENTALS

TOP 10 REASONS TO AVOID PROM DRESS RENTALS

by Synchronicity Boutique

1. You will not receive the dress until 4 days BEFORE your event… if you are lucky!

2. Prom dresses NEVER fit exactly right- you will NOT have time for alterations or for finding another dress.

3. New dresses from Synchronicity Boutique start at the same price as the rentals… but they are YOURS TO KEEP!

4. THE RENTALS OFTEN SMELL …. you can’t easily clean fragile fabrics, and you can’t use heat to press a prom dress like you do a tuxedo… trust us on this one!

5. You do not know “who was doing what” in the dress just before they returned the dress that you just received!

Karen,

Good morning from Kandahar.  The deployment is going as well as can be expected.  I have attached a picture of my husband and I at Epcot Center in Disney World.  Remember, I came home for R&R in September, got this awesome dress at your shop (Brooke helped) and got the best pictures.  I decided I wanted a “formal” night at Disney.

I love your shop.  I hope to be back there this summer for another killer dress!

Chantal, again, our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we can’t wait to see you and SERVE YOU! Thank you so much again, and what a FABULOUS picture of you and your husband!,

Fondly,
Karen

Tangerine Tango Prom Dresses BaltimoreWell, if you haven’t heard (even Ryan Seacrest is talking about the color) Tangerine Tango is the 2012 color of the year! Each year the Pantone Color Institute names the color of the year, last year it was Honeysuckle said to encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor.

Ringing in 2012 is the Dramatic Colors

Defined by the institute as a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute® describes the color as “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it.

Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.” Look for this vivid hue from proms top designers to create your color of the year look.

Hottest Special Occasion Clothing in Baltimore

Synchronicity Boutique, Baltimore’s "Hottest Special Occasion Clothing and Accessory Shop for Adults and Teens," Says, "Think Local First" on the 2nd Annual Buy Local, "Shop Small Saturday"

BALTIMORE – Synchronicity Boutique owner Karen Mazer is offering specials and deals on the area’s "hottest special occasion clothing and accessories for adults and teens” this Saturday.

“We hope that customers who ordinarily shop the big department stores will come out to support local retailers this weekend,” Mazer said. “We have the best special occasion clothes in town, always at the "Guaranteed lowest prices of any authorized stores, online or off," but we have received permission from our designers to offer amazing discounts no one is usually allowed to offer.”

Baltimore born and raised, here are additional ways that Mazer says buying local helps, and Synchronicity Boutique, specifically, works to support the communities that support them:

  • When You Support Your Community You Support Yourself: Studies show that when you buy from independent, locally owned businesses, more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, strengthening the community's economic base. "I have a full staff of long-term, loyal employees who offer the very best, award-winning Customer Service found ANYWHERE.  I pay my local landlord rent, I buy as much from local vendors as possible, and I financially support local schools and organizations.  I pay all of my taxes and fees, and work hard to be a great member of the community.  My customers are my neighbors, my biggest boosters, and my friends- and I am grateful to be theirs.
  • Supporting Local Retailers Helps Keep Baltimore Unique: One-of-a-kind local businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of Baltimore.  "I register every dress I sell to help prevent people wearing the same outfit to their special occasion.  I try to stock enough variety that EVERY person can find something that looks fabulous uniquely on them, no matter what their shape or size.  I honor schools', churches' and synagogues' personal requests for what they find acceptable for their event, and I often know the Clergy and Administrators from working with them over the years, both professionally and with their own families!
  • Local Retailers Support Community Groups: Non profits generally receive more support from small-business owners than they do from the "big guys."  Synchronicity donates $5 from the purchase of every regularly priced dress or tuxedo to the school that the student who will wear it attends, or to a local charity if no schools are involved.  I work with schools and community leaders to "quietly" help people who are going through a difficult time, and support many wonderful area charities.
  • Buying Local Reduces Environmental Impact: Locally owned businesses tend to make more local purchases, requiring less transportation, and generally set-up-shop in town centers as opposed to developing on the fringe. This means less urban sprawl, habitat loss and pollution.  I am located blocks from the Baltimore Beltway, Reisterstown Road, and my customers can even take Local Bus #59 to stop less than a 5 minute walk to my store.  I also work with other local businesses to support their local efforts!
  • Buying Local Creates More Jobs: Small local businesses are the nation's largest job creators. I am currently hiring!  I am looking for responsible, honorable, hard-working people who would like to be trained so they can be promoted-from-within my store as my other staff has.
  • Invest in Community: Local businesses are owned by people who live here and are less likely to leave and are more invested in the community.  My customers know my staff, and see them around the community!  We have been honored to attend wonderful, special occasions of our customers, who often visit us, "Just to say, "Hello!"  All of my models are recruited because they will be "Good representatives of Synchronicity Boutique," because we genuinely find beauty in every good person.  Our customers are the "World's Greatest," and we are genuinely grateful to be given the opportunity to serve them!

Synchronicity Boutique Stocks Up with 1500+ Homecoming Dresses

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CONTACT
: Caryn Sagal at 410-363-9583

BALTIMORE – Synchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington area’s “hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for adults and teens,” has ordered more than 1,500+ Homecoming dresses, most of which already are in stock.

“Homecoming is becoming much bigger at schools, as girls dress up as fashionably for Homecoming as they do for Prom,” said Synchronicity Boutique Owner Karen Mazer. “Generally, customers prefer short dresses for Homecoming, unless their fall dance is a true formal.”

Homecoming Dresses Trends

Sherri Hill Homecoming Dresses BaltimoreAs seen in the Boutique’s special Homecoming catalog and online at www.MyDreamDress.com, this year’s fashions tend to be “body hugging and sexy,” but in very different ways, according to Mazer. “One-shoulder and one- or two-sleeved dresses are huge for this season, as are dresses with cut-outs, draping/wide open backs or fronts, and the ‘Grecian Goddess’ look is making a big return.”

“Flesh tones, including nude/see-through dresses with strategic accents are gaining popularity, and black is coming back,” Mazer added. “Poofy party dresses still play a big role, but most are very short and have corseted tops.”

Big, chunky jewels, studs and sequins continue to dominate, with feathers (especially peacock) and animal prints (cheetah, in particular), also very popular. All of these elements are in style, both on the dresses, as well as on their accompanying accessories.

Our Homecoming Dress Designers:

Sized 00 to 30w, the dresses come from a variety of leading New York Dress Designers including:

  • Sherri Hill
  • Jovani
  • Tony Bowls/Mon Cheri
  • La Femme
  • Faviana
  • Mac Duggal
  • Night Moves by Allure

This season, the Boutique also is carrying a larger selection of accessories including Alisha Hill and Johnathan Kayne Shoes.

Why Buy your Homecoming Dress from Synchronicity Boutique

Synchronicity Boutique registers every dress purchase, so no two customers wear the same dress to the same event. Mazer also will donate $5 from every homecoming/fall ring dance dress purchase to the student's school. {For each 2011 prom dress purchase, the Boutique donated $5 to the customer’s school for its after-prom party, SADD (Students Against Driving Drunk) chapter or other programming – supporting a total of 154 schools.}

Named “Baltimore’s Best” by Baltimore Magazine and known as the area’s go-to place for special occasion fashions, Synchronicity Boutique outfits customers of all ages from all over the world for Bat Mitzvahs, homecomings, proms, ring dances, cocktail parties, cotillions, graduations, Quinceaneras, sweet sixteens, college formals, military balls, pageants, weddings and other black-tie events.

Finding the Right Bat Mitzvah Dress

Sherri Hill Bat Mitzvah Dress BaltimoreYoung ladies often require three outfits- one for Friday night services, one for their actual Bat Mitzvah, and a third for their party. This is their day to shine. Outfits for the Bat Mitzvah Girl should be special to them – something that they adore and feel beautiful in; however, this doesn't mean that you have to "pay a fortune."

Finding the right Bat Mitzvah Store

Many unique outfits are available "off the rack" at local boutiques. Don't be shy about telling a store if you have a budget. Bat Mitzvah Dress Stores that specialize in Bat Mitzvah fashions can help guide your selections in all of the above areas.  Avoid large department stores if possible- other girls may be wearing the same "special bat mitzvah dress" as your child!  Also, beware of online sites that you are not familiar with.  Their "too good to be true" pricing often hides that outfits may be "knock-offs" or damaged goods.  In addition, outfits usually look very different on your child then they do online, and are usually final sale.  Check a Bat Mitzvah Dress Store reputation and return policy before making a purchase.

When to buy your Bat Mitzvah Dress

Try not to purchase or alter her outfits more than 3 months prior to the event, since sizes can change rapidly for girls this age. If you do buy sooner, make certain to buy a full size larger than needed and wait until closer to your event date to have outfits altered.

Comfort and Synagogue policies are essential in your choice of clothing. Most Synagogues require that shoulders be covered and that skirts/dresses are an "appropriate length"- this length varies based on the Synagogue, so do check. Avoid scarves and pashmina-style wraps to cover her shoulders if she will be wearing a Tallit – bolero style jackets or light sweaters are much more comfortable.   Also, this is not the time for your daughter to wear "high heels."  Make sure that her shoes truly fit well, and that she can comfortably walk in them.  "Ballerina flats" or low heels with ankle supports can be fashionable and very comfortable while in her bat mitzvah dress.

Now, lets be casual

For the reception, parents often buy inexpensive socks for every girl attending their party, especially if there will be a lot of dancing and games.  It has become a custom for girls to "kick off their shoes" and put on the socks almost as soon as they arrive at the reception!  You can also help your guests by using traditional or very descriptive terms to describe how you would like them to dress. Contemporary and novel descriptions like "country club casual,"  "business casual," or "party clothes" can be frustrating and confusing.

Treasure her Bat Mitzvah

Finally and most importantly, this is a very special and meaningful day for your daughter and for your entire family.   "Don't sweat the small details."  Find the perfect Bat Mitzvah Dresses and Treasure the day!
